Get more from your private lessons

A little preparation can make a private lesson much more useful. Give yourself one clear question to work on.

Bring one specific moment

Choose a short clip or movement that feels difficult. Ask your partner before sharing a video that includes them, and tell the teacher what you want to understand.

Ask for one thing to practice

Before the lesson ends, ask for a simple exercise and a clear cue to notice. Repeat it slowly together so you know what you are taking home.

Leave with a small practice plan

Write down the exercise, the cue and when you will try it. With everyone’s permission, record a short example. Bring your next question to the following lesson.

Offer clear video feedback

Make a feedback offer easy to understand: a defined question, a clear response and one useful next step.

Define a small, clear offer

Explain the clip length you will review, what the dancer should send and what they will receive. Set the price and expected turnaround before accepting a request.

Show the moment you mean

Refer to a specific timestamp. Describe what you see without guessing how it feels, demonstrate an adjustment and give the dancer one exercise to try.

Make the next step clear

Say whether a follow-up clip is included. Keep videos private, agree how long you will retain them and ask separately before using any student footage in promotion.

Fill your studio’s quiet hours

Help a teacher or dancer see whether your room fits their session without a long exchange of messages.

Make the room easy to evaluate

Show current photos and list floor type, usable space, mirrors, sound equipment and access arrangements. Describe any limits on footwear, music volume or group size.

Offer clear, bookable time windows

Start with hours your own classes rarely use. Allow time for arrival and changeover, keep availability current and explain what the rental price includes.

Set expectations before the booking

Share entry instructions, cancellation terms and the condition the room should be left in. Name a contact for access problems and confirm each booking in writing.
